Due to popular demand (and threats), I'm finally
posting a new story after several months. The reason for the delay is that I
have been all "gaa gaa" over my Blog that I started last April and it
has been the main center of my attention. This, of course, is the result of my obsessive-compulsive
mind. Now then, here is my new story. I was surprised to discover that they still sell
rubber band guns these days. I recently found them on Amazon.com and was pleasantly surprised, in deed. Once and a great while I actually find things these
days that we had as kids albeit rarely. I plan to get one for myself and relive
the fun I had when I had one as a kid. I had a lot of fun with those guns. I had a plastic six-shooter
with a long barrel that looked like Wyatt Earp's Buntline Special. The long
barrel gave the rubber band ammo more velocity. I don't recall where I attained
this rubber band gun. Probably for Christmas from either my parents or
grandparents, or someone else who was obviously a sadist for getting me something like this! As I
recall, it came with a target set that rotated when hit by a high velocity
rubber band. I don't recall ever using the targets. However, I do recall that
cats and dogs made better targets. The very best targets were people, especially my sister. It worked by putting rubber bands over the barrel and
hooking the other end on a star wheel. If I used smaller rubber band ammo, I
could get several shots. Most of the time I used the big thick rubber bands
that were used to hold the leaves around cauliflower heads to blanch them. I
attained these from our neighbor's truck farming operation. They were yellow,
long, and thick and were perfect for "high velocity" "bullets".
This "ammo" transformed my pistol into kind of a "magnum". I always used this high power ammo to shoot
people. When I really wanted to blast someone, I would make a magnum "shot
gun" by putting several of the "high velocity" yellow
cauliflower heavy-duty rubber bands on the same peg. When I pulled the trigger,
they all shot at once and they actually caused the pistol to 'kick"! This
ammo was almost exclusively used to shoot my sister, especially if she was in
my bedroom going through my things. I'm sure she remembers those "shot
gun" blasts! As I got older, I graduated to BB guns, then pistols
and rifles that shot .22 ammunition, then to more powerful stuff. However, I
still have a fondness in my heart for my first "heavy duty" rubber
band gun. I intend to order one on Amazon.com. In the meantime, I'm also going
to get some of those heavy-duty yellow cauliflower rubber bands. I know my
sister reads my stories. Hey Sue, how about coming to see me in a few weeks. If
I'm "not home", could you do me a big favor and please get some of my
stuff from my bedroom and keep it for me at your place for "safe
keeping"? |

| THIS RUBBER BAND GUN WAS SIMILAR TO THE ONE I HAD. ALTHOUGH, THE BARREL WAS LONGER AND IT WAS MADE OF PLASTIC. NOTE THE "STAR WHEEL" THAT MADE SEMI AUTOMATIC SHOTS POSSIBLE. |
