When I was a kid growing
up in the 50’s there seemed to be a plethora of wildlife everywhere
around us. Every summer we could look out over our fields and see thousands of
“lightning bugs”. Now in 2004 as I look out my patio door over those same
fields, I see maybe a dozen or so “lightning bugs”. I ask myself, “Where did
they all go?” We used to spend many summer nights catching them and putting
a bunch of them in a glass jar with the metal lid punched full of holes, thus
making a “lantern”. Now if I want to do the same thing, I couldn’t catch enough
to even make a “pen light”! Hmmm, very strange, indeed. Another species, which
seems to have disappeared, are “Bob Whites”. Those are the birds that sound
like “Bob White Bob White” when they sound off. At least that’s what our
grandmother said they were called and what they were saying with the
distinctive accented trill of theirs. I never remember seeing any, but I sure
heard them all through the summers during the 50’s and early 60’s. Speaking of
birds, when we were kids and either Uncle Ned, or our father was plowing, there
were seemingly hundreds of Red Wing Blackbirds following the plow and getting
worms from the open plow furrow. I watched Tim plow up the old tired hay field
just outside my patio door the other day and didn’t see 1 Red Wing Black Bird!
As a matter of fact, I didn’t see ANY birds following the plow to get an easy
meal! Hmmm, I realize that the Democrats have “Dumbed Down” a whole generation
of kids in the public schools they control through their arm of the NEA, (This
is so they will be good liberals and vote for Democrats), but have they even
succeeded in “Dumbing Down” birds too???? It would seem so! Yeah, I know, my
conspiracy theories (which happen to be fact and I can supply numerous
documentation). The last few years I have seen more and more gulls in the
fields. I never remember seeing gulls when I was a kid around our place. Maybe
the gulls are secretly chasing off the Red Wing Black Birds? Humph, of all the
“gull”! One more thing, when I was a kid we always saw “heat lightning” in the
summer. The last several years, I haven’t seen that any summer either. I don’t
know what to make of that! Hmmmm, another Commie plot maybe… they are siphoning
off the power to conquer us… OK, don’t get alarmed, I’m just thinking out loud.
Hey, I have to justify my John Birch Society dues somehow! OK, I’ve come to my senses; after taking a
short break to gather myself and rationally thinking about it, it’s not the
Commies stealing the heat lightning… IT’S THE DEMOCRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Same
people actually). I seem to be waxing politically in the middle of this
missive. It’s probably because I received my autographed picture from George
and Laura Bush today. It really
says, “To Michael…” I’m positive they didn’t remove all the lightning
bugs, red wing blackbird, Bob Whites, or heat lightning, so it must be the
Democrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Yes,
I am off my meds and aim to stay that way~~~~~~ If anyone sees any of the
afore mentioned critters, please let me know!!!! Whoaaa, before I get off the
subject of things you don’t see now that you used to see as a kid; when’s the
last time you saw soda pop in bottles? There is one brand that still does “Stewards”,
and a friend keeps me supplied from her source in Cleveland (thank you, Sylvia!). I’ll bet it’s another Commie AKA
Democrat conspiracy! You see, what they do is they… Awww, never mind…
