| PLACES TO HAVE A "WEED" |
| As mentioned in the previous story "Bank Job", we had several hidden smoking spots throughout town. The usual "sneak a weed" gang were Tim, Gary H. and me (or anyone else we could "corrupt"). Of course at home we had "The Roost", and when the urge hit us, one of us would exclaim, "To the Roost"! Some of the places in town we had were the following: "THE BARNS" (Between 2 barns on the south side of Sixth St,) "THE CHURCH" (At the bottom of the basement stair well of the Methodist Church (we had no shame in those days!) "THE TIES" (Behind a stack of railroad ties behind the bank where we usually had or "noontime weeds") "THE PINES" ( A small grove of Christmas trees on school property) "THE SLAB" (A headwall on a small creek also on school property) "THE LOG" (An old fallen tree by "The Slab" ditto school property) "THE STUMP" ( An old stump by "The Slab". "THE INDIAN HOLE" ( A sunken depression on the bank of Old Woman Creek; the main creek that ran on the edge of town) "THE BRIDGE" ( A bridge over Old Woman Creek at the bottom of Parmenter Hill) "THE SHOWER ROOM" (The bottom of the stair well to the outside entrance to the boy's shower room at school) Another guy (Mike B.) and I got caught "Smoking on School property" behind the shop DURING SHOP CLASS in my Jr. year. We both got 3 days suspension for that! Usually, we only smoked on school property AFTER school or at "The Slab" during lunch hour when we didn't go to Phil's Restaurant to eat. Oh well, it was only a matter of time before we tried to smoke "During school hours", and the principle ("Bo Bo") "weeded" us out" of school for 3 days, so we both got together on one of the days to go squirrel hunting and smoke in our woods! |
