| The front porch at our farmhouse where Tim now lives has always been an ideal place to sit and watch thunderstorms. Ollie, our grandmother, never watched storms with us, since she was too busy pacing around the house being terrorized and sprinkling "Holy Water" all over everything! It's an "old fashion" porch with a roof over it and plenty large enough to move out of the way of any but the strongest wind-blown rain from hitting us. Even now I sometimes walk across the lawn to storm watch with Tim while sitting on the porch. One particular time when we were around 15 or so, Tim and I were sitting on the porch during a strong thunder storm and storm watching. There were numerous lightning flashes and rolls of thunder accompanied by heavy rain and wind. It was a real "Ollie sprinkling holy water" storm! Tim nonchalantly said, "I wish lightning would strike around here. It wasn't more than a few seconds later that a bolt of lightning struck an electric pole (in full sight of us), about 1/4 mile to the south of us at the corner of Ceylon and Tennant roads! It was a very bright flash immediately followed by a deafening crash of thunder. The electric transformer on the pole exploded as well and cut off our electricity. Our initial reaction was one of surprising awe and dumbfoundedness followed by a "scary feeling" of a prophecy immediately fullfilled! Hmmm, you have to wonder... |
