"LAP" CATS
We had many humurous encounters with cats during our formative years.  We were always "knee-deep" in animals and over the years would bring many animals in the house to play with.  We brought in skunks (very young ones!), wild and tame rabbits, a fawn, cats, dogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, little pigs, snakes, young raccoons, birds, fish, mice and rats, frogs, toads, chickens, tame geese, pheasants, peacocks, and many other species both known and unknown.  Of course, we were always surrounded by the ubiquitous cats and dogs.  It was not unusual for us to have a cat, dog, and/or rabbit laying with us on the sofa as we watched evening T.V.  One night Tim picked up one of the indoor/outdoor cats and laid it on his lap and put a blanket back around him with the cat underneath.  We never noticed that this particular cat was VERY pregnant (Hey, this was the 50's and we never noticed things like that).  Tim was very engrossed in the T.V. program and eventually noticed that the cat kept stiffening up.  During a T.V. ad he lifted the blanket to discover the cat was having kittens on his lap!

THE CAT HAD KITTENS, "BY GEORGE"!
When we were around 10 or so, we had one cat we called "Slimey George" because he was always sneaking up on the table and licking the butter and anything else that looked remotely edible.  One day when Tim and I were looking around (i.e. "nosing" around) in our fraternal grandmother's (Ollie) closet, we made a neat discovery.  We ran out into the kitchen loudly heralding the good news, "Hey, "George" had kittens!"
