| I have always "marched to the beat of my own drum", although some think the drum skin is stretched a little too tightly, and have also always "been myself" , come what may, and never one to "follow the crowd". Yeah, I may be a bit eccentric, but I have always maintained that fine line of "being different" without being weird (ALRIGHT...THOSE OF YOU WHO KNOW ME, HOLD THE WISECRACKS!!!) Although most everyone I've ever known calls me "One of a kind", and "When they made you they threw away the mold" (yeah, and beat up the mold maker!) Oh well, as Shakespeare said, "To thine ownself be true...". I'm not sure what caused me to get on this subject, but I guess it's an introduction to this next account... One of the few non-military "civilian" coats I wore was during the winter of my junior year of high school. This coat, which I bought, was a "phony-cheap-vinyl-leather-look-alike coat. However, it WAS an olive-drab color. As a matter of fact, it was UUUUUGLY! For some reason, known only unto myself at the time, I decided to paint it silver. I obtained a can of silver spray paint and proceeded to paint the whole outside of the coat with several layers of silver paint. After finishing, it had the metalic silver look of a space alien's uniform. (Perhaps that was my goal in the first place). I hung it up to dry out in the back room of the woodshed. I repeatedly checked it several times daily for several days but the paint NEVER DRIED! It remained tacky for MONTHS until I finally burned it up in the trash. One theory was that the vinyl base caused a chemical reaction in the paint. My theory, which is more likely, was that God was saying to me, WHOAAAA! You're starting to cross that "Fine Line" (again)." |
